(18.09.2023) Yurii Sheliazhenko, conscientious objector, pacifist, human rights defender and the Executive Secretary of the Ukrainian Pacifist Movement, has been placed under partial house arrest in Kyiv on 15th August, being accused of ‘justifying the Russian aggression’.

(12.09.2023) After the success of our last action week for the #ObjectWarCampaign in May 2023 that was organized in solidarity with conscientious objectors and deserters from Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine, we are now calling for another action week with more than 30 other organizations from Germany and Europe. It will occur on the International Human Rights Day from December 4-10, 2023.

Russia: Surge in Criminal Investigations Against Military Objectors

(Juni 2023) In the first half of 2023, Russian military courts have received 2,076 criminal cases concerning unauthorized absence from military service, as per Article 337 of the Russian Criminal Code. This number is twice as high as the total cases for the entire year of 2022 and three times higher than the pre-war year of 2021. The majority of the accused are not contract soldiers but those who have been mobilized. Courts are now issuing around 100 verdicts per week, and this number is on the rise.

Ukraine: Zelensky’s plan has no legal foundation

President Zelensky announced that he will submit extradition requests to recruit those who have fled the country and evaded a draft. Due to the European Council Directive 2001/55/EC of July 20, 2001, better known as the “Temporary Protection Directive (TPD)”, all Ukrainian citizens receive temporary humanitarian residences in the European Union at the moment.
