Support of Greek conscientious objectors’ boycott of the Conscience Examination Committee

(29.05.2018) Bearing in mind the scandalous fact that despite numerous appeals, Greek authorities have, for several decades, violated the human right of conscientious objection to military service, the European Bureau for Conscientious Objection and War Resisters’ International support the renewed call for a boycott of the Conscience Examination Committee (the special advisory committee which examines applications for conscientious objector status), which has been issued by the Association of Greek Conscientious Objectors.

"We raise a common voice for peace and against militarisation"

Statement

(08.03.2016) We are conscientious objectors from all around the eastern Mediterranean region. Our region has suffered for so long from oppression, injustice, militarisation, military occupations and wars, as well as poverty, illiteracy, hunger and lack of social infrastructure. In this difficult period, when our region seems to fall even more into the chaos of war, we raise a common voice for peace and against militarisation.

Greece: Conscientious Objector Sotiropoulos sentenced

Stop the intimidations and prepare the end of conscription

(16.06.2015) The European Bureau for Conscientious Objection (EBCO) is shocked at what happened today in the Appeal Military Court of Athens, where the Greek conscientious objector Dimitris K. Sotiropoulos was found guilty again on an insubordination charge and was sentenced to 10-month suspended imprisonment after a clearly unfair trial with problematic procedures.

Shame to the Greek EU Presidency

At least 3 arrests and 3 convictions of Greek conscientious objectors during the Presidency

(02.07.2014) “EBCO expresses its deep disappointment at the Greek European Union Presidency as far as it concerns the grave violations of the human rights of conscientious objectors in Greece. It’s a shame that during the first semester of 2014, the Greek authorities continued persecuting and convicting conscientious objectors, rejecting several applications for civilian service submitted by conscientious objectors on ideological grounds, and even harassing and detaining peaceful activists”, Friedhelm Schneider, EBCO’s President stated today.
